Over the past few months, as we’ve been gearing up for our event with Art Spiegelman (buy tickets here) we started to work more closely with the comic book community of Toronto, and discovered that the Big Smoke is actually somewhat of a comic book mecca. Some of the world’s greatest thinkers and illustrators are creating work around every corner. And happily we learned that Art Spiegelman is a major influence for a lot of these artists. His presence in Toronto is felt in the work produced from Queen West to Leslieville. To celebrate this, we partnered with Jonathan Rotsztain to produce What the $%@!: The Spiegelman Influence, a beautiful, free booklet jam-packed with work from local comic book artists. It explores the influence Spiegelman has had on their work, and his larger artistic significance.

You can pick up a hard copy of the booklet at the Koffler offices, the TCAF Pop-Up store in the Toronto Reference Library, or at The Beguiling. And in the meantime, please enjoy this digital version!

See you all on January 26th, when we host Art Spiegelman for a live event at Bloor Hot Docs Cinema. Follow with the hashtag #SpiegelmanTO. And maybe we’ll find answers to the question: “What the %$@&??”
