Koffler Centre of the Arts, in partnership with Toronto Clicks, is excited to host a public photography walk through Kensington Market as part of Koffler X Neighbourhoods, a literary and photographic exploration of Toronto. The Koffler and Toronto Clicks have worked together to pair four exciting young photographers with four professional local writers to examine diverse Toronto neighbourhoods, and collaboratively build photo essays that reflects their impressions, experiences, and insights about the area.

The photo essays will begin to be released October 8, 2015 on Koffler.Digital, the Koffler’s new online platform dedicated to publishing high-quality, free digital arts content. The release of the essays will culminate in a public photography walk of Kensington Market, led by the writers and photographers of Koffler X Neighbourhoods with professionals from Toronto Clicks. The public will be guided through Kensington Market, and invited to challenge their perceptions and impressions through the act of photography. The walk will end in a public reception at Artscape Youngplace where all four photo essays will be on display. This reception will also mark the one-year anniversary of Toronto Clicks, so come celebrate with them!

For the project, Writer Antanas Sileika (novelist and director of The Humber School for Writers) and photographer Jamaal Merrick (on Instagram as @jamaalism) will be collaborating on a photo essay of St. James Town/Cabbagetown. Elle Buetow (aka @Ellephoto, a full time photographer specializing in storytelling images) and writer Catherine Graham (whose work has appeared in Poetry Daily, The Malahat Review, Verse Daily, The Fiddlehead, Taddle Creek, The Humber Literary Review, The Ulster Tatler, The New Quarterly, and Poetry Ireland) will be collaborating on a photo essay of The Beaches.

Moving into the west end, photographer Ryan Tacay (a street photographer, on Instagram as @Phraction) will be working with author Emily Pohl-Weary (Ghost Sick in 2015, Not Your Ordinary Girl in 2013) to collaborate on a photo essay about Parkdale. Joyce Wayne, a professor of journalism for 27 years and author (most recently, The Cook’s Temptation) will partner with photographer Soteeoh (a Toronto-born street photographer who is on Instagram as @sooteoh) to explore Kensington Market.
