The Koffler Centre of the Arts was proud to present acclaimed playwright/screenwriter Tony Kushner on May 9, 2016 at the Panasonic Theatre as part of our cultural programming. This invitation recognizes Mr. Kushner’s significant artistic accomplishments in the world of contemporary screen and theatre arts and reflects our commitment to artists whose work is critical in changing our society.
As an organization that presents a contemporary cross-disciplinary arts program, we recognize that artists’ politics often play a significant role in their creative output. Artistic production addressing contemporary society and life intrinsically engages current issues and frequently controversial positions. We respect the diversity of viewpoints essential to a democratic society, including both the perspectives of the artists we collaborate with and those of our audiences. As an organization devoted to inquiry, exploration and inter-cultural dialogue, we strongly believe in freedom of speech as a requirement for healthy, constructive cultural discourse.
