The Board, management and staff of the Koffler Centre of the Arts, together with the Koffler family, are deeply saddened by the passing of our Chair Emerita, Dorothy Shoichet on October 6, 2020. Dorothy was a visionary champion of the arts, sciences and humanitarian causes and devoted over a decade of her leadership to the Koffler.

Dorothy will be fondly remembered as a woman of extraordinary intelligence and energy. Her sense of justice and good works allowed many to walk through doors that were previously closed. Her wit, elegance and fashion sense were legendary; Dorothy brought beauty and artistry into every space she entered.

As Koffler Chair, Dorothy’s leadership was transformational, helping to guide the Centre from a cultural department of the JCC to a widely recognized public gallery and leader in multidisciplinary arts education. Her tireless dedication and advocacy helped build the solid foundation on which the Koffler now stands.

“Dorothy Shoichet’s lofty standards, aspirations and innovative thinking deeply influenced the people and organizations with whom she worked,” shared Immediate Past Chair Tiana Koffler Boyman. “Her civic achievements and contributions will inspire all of us for years to come.”

As a friend, mentor, businessperson and community leader, Dorothy will be profoundly missed by our organization and all who knew her.
