The Synagogue at Babyn Yar: Turning the Nightmare of Evil into a Shared Dream of Good
Robert Jan van Pelt, Manuel Herz, Edward Burtynsky, Maxim Dondyuk, Iwan Baan, Douglas Birkenshaw
This exhibition links three moments of global resonance — the Holocaust's first large-scale massacre, the creation of a jewel-like wooden synagogue, and Russia's war against Ukraine.
This world premiere exhibition focuses on the massacre of 33,771 Jewish people on September 29 and 30, 1941 in Kyiv, Ukraine and how a synagogue was built and dedicated 80 years later adjacent to the site of the massacre, serving as both a memorial for the lives lost and a sanctified space for future generations.
In partnership with Nuit Blanche and the City of Toronto.
