In his exhibition at the Koffler Gallery, A Heap of Random Sweepings, Sameer Farooq creates a series of displays that raise questions about provenance and repatriation, articulating new visions for repurposing the emptied spaces of museums devoid of their plunder. Submerged in an audio environment composed by Farooq’s collaborator, Gabie Strong, the artworks offer themselves as tools for meditation and self-reflection. Lyrical captions contributed by poet Jared Stanley unsettle the rigidly prescribed narratives of didactic labels. The assembly guides us to interrogate our relationship with art objects and to ponder on an intrinsic potential that transcends their aesthetic value. 

Reunited online, Sameer Farooq, Jared Stanley, Gabie Strong and curator Mona Filip will discuss the collaborative processes, artistic explorations and political drives that generated A Heap of Random Sweepings.
